PLAION :

(14:00 BST / 15:00 CEST) 20th AUGUST 2024: PLAION, a global leading publisher and developer of video games, and Atari, one of the world’s most iconic consumer brands and interactive entertainment producers, are proud to announce today that the Atari 7800+ – a modern day faithful recreation of the console that first appeared in 1986 – will be launching worldwide on 29th November 2024 and is now available to pre-order for £99.99 (€119.99 / $129.99).

Launching with the Atari 7800+ is Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest, an action-adventure game which sees the main protagonist navigating through isometric mazes while collecting crystals and avoiding enemies.  The new Atari 7800+ has been created using modern technology to authentically replicate the original Atari 7800 console.

The Atari 7800+ comes with a wireless gamepad, the CX 78+, allowing gamers to enjoy an authentic experience without the restrictions of cables — an iconic innovation in action.

Key features include:

·         BUILDING ON THE LEGACY: The new Atari 7800+ builds on the original machine with modern quality of life features such as HDMI output and USB power.

·         GO BACK IN TIME: The cartridge slot is backwards compatible with hundreds of original Atari 2600 and 7800 games.

·         LOOK AND FEEL OF 1986: The Atari 7800+ has been meticulously crafted to replicate the original console's design, from the brushed metal strip to the angular edges, retaining the high-tech, futuristic look of 1986.

PLAION and Atari are also excited to announce two new solus controllers, the CX40+ Wireless Joystick (RRP: £29.99 / €34.99 / $34.99) and the CX78+ Wireless Gamepad (RRP: £29.99 / €34.99 / $34.99).  These new peripherals will launch on the same day as the Atari 7800+, 29th November 2024.

Six separate Atari 7800+ games will also be released on the 29th November 2024.  Complete with new packaging and cartridges, these games include the following:

Asteroids Deluxe – Floating debris from exploding asteroids bounces off the hull of your spacecraft.  Meteors activate proximity sensors while you hurl towards certain doom.  Blast your way through a massive field of asteroids with your photon cannon to save your ship—and your life!

Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest - Bentley Bear’s nemesis, Berthilda the Witch, has exacted her revenge and stolen the Five Crystals of Life, plunging the world into chaos!  You need to brave the various realms in order to recover each of the crystals and complete your Quest!

Berzerk - Try to keep from going bonkers as you dodge robot fire and elude the robot gang leader, Evil Otto.  Your objective: Destroy robots, rack up as many points as possible, and stay alive as you move through a multitude of maddening BERZERK mazes.

Bounty Bob Strikes Back - Bounty Bob is back and ready for another adventure after his underground exploits in Miner 2049er.  Help Bob reclaim a host of new caverns in Nuclear Ned's abandoned uranium mine while avoiding radioactive waste and mutant organisms, and foil the plans of the evil Yukon Yohan!

Frenzy - Trapped in a bizarre alien maze, you’ve got to find a way to escape.  Standard Sentry Bots and skeletal Murder Bots stalk you through hundreds of cells as you run for your life!  Watch out for the grinning Crazy Otto who can only be stopped temporarily.

Space Duel - Your pilots are trapped in the distant sector OPPO-6, contaminated by rare crystalline space spores!  The geometric spores are beautiful but deadly, destroy the spores and defend yourself! Like the original vector arcade version of the game, this 7800+ release features Competition and Team variations.

And finally, to complete Atari’s support of its ‘+’ range this year, the company is also pleased to announce four new Atari 2600+ games, which again will release on 29th November 2024.  These games include:

Caverns Of Mars - In 4014, Earth and Mars are locked in brutal war.  Martians have devised a strategy to end the conflict by destroying Earth’s Terra IV planet.  To sabotage this plan, you must skillfully navigate your HELICON X space fighter through the catacombs, activate the NegaBombs and escape to the surface!

RealSports Collection - For real excitement and sporting competition, the name of the game is ATARI RealSports™.  Whether you play against a friend or the computer, it's on you to be the best!  Enjoy 7 fun-packed games on one cartridge -  BASEBALL, BASKETBALL, BOXING, FOOTBALL, SOCCER, TENNIS and VOLLEYBALL.

Epyx Games - On your Marks, Get set, Go!  From the 100m sprint to Bobsleigh and Surfing, compete in 20 exciting sports spanning Summer Games, Winter Games and California Games in this great collection of three classic Epyx Sports titles on one cartridge.
