Indie Cup Canada’22: Winners revealed

November 18, 2022 – The first-ever Indie Cup Canada, a digital festival of Canadian independent games, finishes today. The expert jury board evaluated the nominees and chose the best entries. The Grand Jury Award goes to fighting roguelike deckbuilder Beneath Oresa by Broken Spear. Half Asleep’s rhythm-based Melatonin, a game about dreams and reality merging together, got the Rising Star Award. And Spiral by Folkore Games, a game that shares a poetic vision of cognitive degeneration seen from the inside, takes not one but two awards: Critics’ Choice and Unreal Engine Award.

Meet the best upcoming independent games made in Canada:

Official Selection
 

  • Grand Jury Award for the best overall entry: Beneath Oresa (Broken Spear);

  • Rising Star Award for emerging developers: Melatonin (Half Asleep);

  • Critics’ Choice Award, selected by a panel of game journalists and influencers: Spiral (Folkore Games);

  • Unreal Engine Award for the best Unreal Engine game: Spiral (Folkore Games).


Special Competition
 

  • Prime Choice, selected by Xsolla: FRIGID (Celeritas Games).


The festival features more than 100 upcoming titles by Canadian indie developers, with more than 50 free demos available.

Accepted submissions were evaluated by experts from Devolver Digital, thatgamecompany, Blizzard Entertainment, tinyBuild, ALL iN! GAMES, The Indie Game Collective, and many others. More than 20 game journalists and streamers were also evaluating accepted submissions in the Critics’ Choice Award category.

Indie Cup Canada’22 ran in partnership with Xsolla, Houdini, Devolver Digital, and other partners.


About Indie Cup

Since 2016, Indie Cup has been hosting an online festival of unreleased indie games, becoming one of Europe’s leading online events for independent developers. To date, Indie Cup has featured more than 1,900 projects, including dozens of titles that went on to achieve critical and popular acclaim. 

The latest Indie Cup edition was Indie Cup Germany’22, held from June 21 to August 18, 2022. Indie Cup Canada is the first overseas edition of the event. On October 25, the first-ever Indie Cup Ukraine premiered as a charity event.

Indie Cup also organizes pop-up sales on Steam, featuring games made by independent developers. The latest sales include the Ukrainian Games Festival and Indie Cup Celebration 2021.
