Northern Forge Studios :

OTTAWA, September 6, 2024 – Northern Forge Studios is excited to announce its participation in the Green Game Jam 2024, unveiling “Terra’s Legacy,” a unique in-game event that blends real-world environmental awareness with immersive location-based gameplay.

On September 9th, Orna: the GPS RPG players will be able to take part in the 10-day Terra’s Legacy event, harnessing the potential of gaming communities for environmental education and engaged action.

What is Terra’s Legacy?

Learning from environmental catastrophes endured by the citizens of planet Terra, Orna players will explore the environmental themes of waste and restoration in their own real-world environments, and be encouraged to highlight local areas of pollution or grievous garbage.

Entering the Terra’s Legacy event allows players to submit the GPS whereabouts of these polluted locations, and once received, the studio’s developer team will approve and transform these physical locations into active “Gloomsites” in the game.

Players who travel to these Gloomsites will be confronted by the Murk, a harmful waste-type enemy as found on Planet Terra, but now symbolizing the pollution and degradation of our own planet. Collectively combating Murk Monsters will help players to defeat the pollution overall.

Event participants can also raise their stakes in Terra’s Legacy by planting trees and growing Gaia apples to restore these same Murk-infested areas. Other players can then harvest the Gaia apples and use them to customize their character and upgrade their magical powers. By collaborating and cleaning up the world, everyone benefits!

A Global Movement for a Greener Future

Northern Forge Studios is honored to contribute to this global movement, using the unique gameplay mechanics of Orna: the GPS RPG to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship.

“We’re thrilled to participate in the Green Game Jam providing Orna as a platform to raise awareness about environmental issues that affect us all,” said Josh O’Reilly, Marketing Mage at Northern Forge Studios. “Through Terra’s Legacy, we hope to inspire our players to somehow contribute in the real world, fostering awareness through action with a sense of responsibility and community that extends beyond the game.”

“To further support this crucial cause, we will be offering players a Terra’s Legacy in-App Purchase pack, brimming full of character sprites and other consumable goodies. The Terra’s Legacy pack will be priced at $9.99 and we will be donating a 20% of all revenue proceeds from these IAP purchases to the Earth Day Canada organization, www.earthday.ca
