Dec 5th, 2025 - MicroProse, a name synonymous with gaming nostalgia, teams up with DryDock Dreams Games to announce an extraordinary Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming “First Team” Physical Edition of Task Force Admiral. Launching January on Kickstarter, this exciting campaign celebrates the golden age of PC gaming and offers fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a spectacular physical first edition of Task Force Admiral and so much more!
What is Task Force Admiral?
Task Force Admiral: Volume 1 - American Carrier Battles invites players to relive the pivotal naval battles of World War II with the most detailed 3D carrier command simulation ever created. Set during the Pacific War from December 1941 to February 1943, players take command of legendary U.S. Navy ships like the Yorktown and Enterprise. This PC-exclusive title blends historical authenticity with an immersive, diegetic interface, capturing the spirit of classic 1990s strategy games for a modern audience.
With over 30 scenarios to explore and a robust scenario builder to create custom campaigns, the game offers an unmatched naval warfare experience. Whether passionate about wargaming or history, Task Force Admiral delivers a thrilling and immersive journey into the heart of carrier command.
A Nostalgic Physical Edition Like No Other
The Kickstarter campaign is dedicated to enabling the launch of a limited-edition physical “big box” version of the game, a nod to the beloved legacy of MicroProse. This nostalgic offering brings back the tactile joy of owning a PC game box filled with treasures, making it a collector’s dream.
“As game boxes have vanished from shelves, we felt it was time to bring back this cherished tradition,” says the team at DryDock Dreams Games. “This campaign is about more than funding—it’s about creating an authentic 1990’s gaming experience for our fans.”
Rewards to Excite Every Backer, Old Timers Included!
The campaign features multiple rewards to suit every fan's degree of love for the topic and the great era when Microprose games came in big boxes, including:
Own the "Big Box" edition, featuring a lavishly illustrated manual, a historical supplement, vintage posters, art postcards, a mousepad, and more!
Or go for the Deluxe Mega Box Edition: A collector’s dream, with exclusive art books, a soundtrack on CD, and a deck of playing cards featuring the game’s stunning artwork.
Want to help us build something better? Access to the Private Beta Test will be offered with some of the digital & physical tiers.
Limited-edition items, such as a collector’s challenge coin, signed artwork, or even personalized in-game and printed custom portraits, to immortalize your support!
A digital version of the game on release is available for those who want to enjoy an early discount!
Finally, high-resolution digital wallpapers and an exclusive Discord role for all tiers!
Additional funding stretch goals will bring incredible additions to the base game for all backers such as a fully orchestrated soundtrack, animated crewmen and even flyable fighters. Fans can help bring these features to life by backing the campaign from January!
Demo
People in the 1990s often knew in advance whether they would like something, thanks to the common practice of offering demos before a commercial release. We will stay faithful to this old habit: a public demo will be available for everyone to download on Steam at the time of the Kickstarter campaign launch, so that you can clearly know what sort of product you are backing. Expect a few hours of hectic carrier action, with one historical scenario, a battle generator, and a test mission from one of our stretch goals, allowing direct first-person and third-person control of fighter aircraft!
