This is no ordinary pinball game or table. The mysterious spire is full of chambers that require not just an accurate shot with a flipper or a carefully timed shot, but a knack for platforming and puzzle-solving. Each chamber is a self-contained puzzle for Pip and the player to solve. Sometimes it’s a matter of carefully watching the environment using the Scouter ability to find the right path. 

At other times, the game’s mana-powered pinball abilities come into play, such as Focus for making perfect shots or the Fireball to set Pip on fire and light the way ahead (don’t worry, they’ll live). Or rather up top: The goal lies at the top of the spire, past an intricately interconnected world full of surprises, strange pathways, and even stranger devices serving a mysterious purpose.

The unique gameplay and world of Pinball Spire are the brainchildren of Tom Voros, forming both a unique experience unlike any other and a loving homage to old-school action titles, pinball video games, and the vast Metroidvania genre. Inspired, but never derivative, the game’s unique gameplay and visuals are paired with a retro-inspired soundtrack with an acoustic touch by Starling Tan, creating a mysterious, adventurous soundscape that’s equal parts surprising and familiar.

With the launch of Pinball Spire Tom,  solo developer of the game,  shares his excitement “I hope players enjoy the atmospheric art and music as they journey through the Pinball Spire in this unconventional take on pinball action!” 

Hope might be unnecessary, as his vision has already found devoted fans: Pinball Spire earned rave reviews at PAX East, West, European Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show, when indie.io made an early build available to visitors. The common thread? Its extraordinary mix of pinball, platform, and puzzle, creating a unique blend of all three that couldn’t be easily classified or described, save for one thing: Wanting to experience more of Pip’s epic tale of flipping and shooting their way up the spire!

Apparition Games is an indie studio from Ontario, Canada, founded in 2011. Their debut project in game development was Pulse, a Flash game that earned second place in Project Eden: Experience the Music game competition organized by Kongregate. Pulse was followed by Micron, which built on the gameplay of its predecessor. Pinball Spire is the most ambitious project to date, mixing three different genres with the goal of implementing Tom Voros’ distinct creative vision.

The music for Pinball Spire was produced by Starling Tan, an Australian composer & multi-instrumentalist based in Canada, and is inspired by retro video game soundtracks with a modern twist. Starling's style has been described as warm, expressive and emotive.
