Salt Lake City, Utah – September 23, 2024 – Indie developer aeio is stoked to announce the release of the demo for Scaredy Cat, now available on Steam for both Windows and Mac. Scaredy Cat follows the story of Henny, a corporate cog turned pet-sitter, who finds herself entangled in a series of haunting events. With a cozy yet dystopian 2D pixel art style and an emphasis on storytelling, the game offers a unique blend of mystery, emotive moments and exploration.
In the demo, players will experience the first two levels of the full game, exploring the modern dystopia of Conhaven while solving puzzles, interacting with whimsical characters and caring for pets. As Henny, players will uncover hidden secrets and face supernatural elements that will keep them on the edge of their seats. In addition to the main storyline, the demo offers side quests and lore to piece together through exploring Conhaven.
"The goal with Scaredy Cat was to make a truly unique narrative experience. At its core, the game blends cute, nostalgic 2D pixel graphics with a dark, conspiracy-driven story, resulting in a compelling contrast that immediately sets it apart,” says lead developer, Melissa Koven. “This goes deeper with characters and situations that are somehow both specific and broadly relatable – stories of loss, grief, anger and conspiracy."
As Henny takes on more pet-sitting jobs around town, she stumbles across strange happenings and supernatural events that point toward a bigger, more ominous mystery. The demo highlights a mix of simple cognitive and environmental puzzles, interactive storytelling and a cast of whimsical characters.
