Shadow of the Ninja - Reborn is a modern reimagining of Natsume’s 1990 action game KAGE - Shadow of the Ninja, developed by the original team now part of Tengo Project under Natsume Atari. The game uses the classic 16-bit pixel art style, a hallmark of the development team, who have previously released remakes of classic 16-bit games like Wild Guns Reloaded, The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors, and Pocky & Rocky Reshrined, all of which received widespread acclaim from players.
Compared to the original, Shadow of the Ninja - Reborn not only features enhanced graphics but also introduces several new systems and detailed content.
Two Game Modes to Challenge Players Worldwide
The game offers two modes: Arcade and Time Attack. In Arcade mode, players can choose between Normal and Hard difficulties and can play solo as either Hayate or Kaede or team up with a friend to tackle completely redesigned levels from start to finish.
In Time Attack mode, players can choose any level to challenge themselves, demonstrating their deep understanding of the game and superior skills by competing with players worldwide for the fastest completion times.
Enhanced Character Actions for New Combat Experiences
In terms of character abilities, the game retains actions from the original, such as running, jumping, hanging, climbing, flipping, attacking, and executing special moves. Additionally, new actions like air hovering, dashing, wall climbing, and downward striking have been added. These new moves significantly enrich the combat experience, allowing players to adapt their strategies according to different battle scenarios and enemy types, creating their unique fighting styles.
Utilize Seven Ninja Tools to Overcome Various Battles
A new feature in this game is the "Seven Tools" system, which allows players to switch and use various tools in addition to the basic weapons, the ninjatō (ninja sword) and kusarigama (chain-sickle). Besides the classic tools like bombs and shurikens from the original game, over 50 new tools have been added, covering attack, defense, and support functions. Before each level, players can purchase any seven tools from their collection using preparation funds to tackle upcoming challenges.
Fully Remastered Stages and Redesigned Enemies
Every stage in Shadow of the Ninja - Reborn has been fully upgraded from the original. The new level designs retain the iconic elements of the original while adding more layers and details, such as raindrops splashing on the deck or enemy battleships faintly visible in the distance. These enhancements not only increase the level of detail in the game scenes but also offer players a more immersive experience.
In addition to revamped stage designs, the enemies have also been redesigned. From basic minions to powerful bosses, all characters now feature new appearances. Notably, many bosses now change forms across different stages, providing players with an even more intense visual and combat experience.
Classic Melodies with Enhanced Depth and Layers
The game's soundtrack, composed by famed musicians Iku Mizutani and Hiroyuki Iwatsuki of "TENGO PROJECT," offers a nostalgic yet refreshing experience for players. Alongside the game's release, a digital soundtrack featuring 16 tracks from the game will be available, offering fans a chance to enjoy the music beyond the gameplay.
