During gameplay, players must cooperate with their "shadows of the past," with the protagonist coexisting with her self from two seconds ago, solving layered puzzles and advancing the story. By constantly using, evading, and eventually embracing the past, each mechanism change will bring players a different puzzle-solving experience. Additionally, the game features multiple chapters that unfold the protagonist's different stages of self-discovery.

While these narrative texts seem to tell a story, upon solving the puzzles and reflecting back, players will discover that most of these narrative texts are actually puns. Besides narrating the protagonist's story, they also hint at the puzzle-solving approach for that level. As it turns out, the answers have always been hidden within the puzzles themselves.
