Multiplayer co-dev, full-dev and analytics company The Multiplayer Group (MPG) has revealed the findings of their latest research into the multiplayer games people loved playing over the past 12 months.
The findings, presented in a blog by MPG’s Head of Data Science David Armstrong, cover Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and even Switch and include such topline findings as:
- Newcomers Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite saw an early surge in Xbox active players
- Lockdown boosted Fortnite’s growth by 20%
- Rocket League got a second wind with Free-to-Play on PlayStation
- Steam saw a steady rise in Fantasy and Horror genres
Using the myriad of data points that MPG’s data scientists constantly monitor, the report aims to deliver a valuable overview of market trends.
David said: “When the various global lockdowns kicked in during 2020, we saw very different playing patterns emerge, and 2021 has seen these stabilise but remain very active with more people than ever playing games with others. The past 12 months have seen a dynamic landscape of companies competing for exclusivity opportunities and growing market demand, and hopefully, this report will help people read the shifting sands.”
