TWO VR EXPERIENCES OF ATLAS V GROUP RECEIVED EMMY ® AWARDS NOMINATION!

Atlas V group is thrilled to celebrate the nomination of two VR works: Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway (The Grand Getaway) and Emperor in the Outstanding Emerging Media Program category at the 76th Emmy Awards.

The Grand Getaway is based on the Academy Award®-winning stop-motion comedy franchise created by Nick Park, is a VR experience directed by Finbar Hawkins and Bram Ttwheam. Co-produced by Aardman and Atlas V in association with No Ghost and Albyon, and distributed by Astrea, this experience offers a joyful and playful virtual reality escapade.

The adventure of The Grand Getaway begins with a golfing holiday gone awry after a rocket launch mishap. Recognizing diverse audiences, from VR novices to seasoned aficionados, the creative teams designed the game to be universally welcoming. It showcases the potential of VR while providing sufficient depth to satisfy more experienced users. The passionate support of fans fuels Aardman’s creative spirit, inspiring them to bring fresh life to Wallace & Gromit’s universe and inviting both longtime fans and new audiences to immerse deeply in the narratives. The Grand Getaway serves not just as a return to the beloved universe but as a portal to imaginative future adventures, offering a delightful introduction to the VR world of Wallace & Gromit.

Narrated by Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon, Ready Player One, Slow Horses), Emperor is an interactive and narrative experience which invites the user to travel inside the brain of a father who is suffering from aphasia. It is the story of a man who’s lost his ability to speak, and of the daughter trying to communicate with him. It is the story of a woman, who wasn’t given the chance to know the man behind her father, now obscured by this illness. Emperor is a poetic experience of the loss of one’s faculties, the passing of time, and the enduring bonds that remain through it all.

Directed by Marion Burger and Ilan J. Cohen, co-produced by Atlas V, Reynard Films, and France Télévisions in association with Albyon and distributed by Astrea, Emperor has traveled to numerous iconic festivals since its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival 2023, where it won the Achievement Prize. The piece premiered in the US at SXSW 2024 where it captured the attention of global audiences, awarded by the XR Experience Spotlight Audience Award. The experience is celebrated not only for its inventive narrative structure but also for its deeply resonant and personal story.
 

These Emmy nominations highlight the enchanting impact of both projects and reflect over two years of dedication from a highly talented team. Creating high-quality animation for immersive experiences demands immense collaboration with animators, designers, engineers, storytellers, programmers, and sound designers all bringing their unique expertise and passion. This collaborative spirit has been key to achieving such outstanding results.

The Emmy Awards final-round voting occurred from August 15th to 26th, and the award ceremony including the Outstanding Emerging Media Program category will be on September 7th .
