30 May 2022, London, UK: Village Studio, the Web3 games platform founded by games industry veterans Will Luton (SEGA, Rovio), Cyril Barrow (Rovio, EA) and Tak Fung (Microsoft, Zynga), has closed a €2.1m pre-seed round led by Animoca Brands, with participation from Venrex, AngelHub, K3 and WinZO as well as notable angel investors including Jas Purewal (chairman, Facepunch) and Phil Mansell (CEO, Jagex).
Village Studio is set to solve interoperability in Web3 games, starting with the Playken (https://www.playken.xyz/) avatar platform and portfolio of games. Playkens are game portable avatars dressed in NFT wearables that can be purchased and traded. Each wearable will have unique attributes that can be utilised across multiple games.
Animoca Brands is a global leader in gamification and blockchain with a large portfolio of over 200 investments in NFT-related companies and decentralized projects that are contributing to building the open metaverse.
The funding round will allow Village Studio to make key hires and begin to build out the platform and its games.
