Hello, I made this article to share my opinions on why the future of video games does not have anything to do with VR (Virtual Reality).

Why VR isn't the future of video gaming or video game development

I bet a lot of you are wondering about why I believe that the amazing capabilities of Virtual Reality doesn't work well with video games and why I think that we'll be seeing less and less VR games over the next few years or so.

First of all, I really love the concept of VR and I enjoy feeling immersed in the game's world.

However, I am pretty sure that you are all aware of the one big flaw in VR; the sick feeling you get when playing for a while longer than you should.

Lots of people tend to feel sick while immersed in the world of the VR game and this sick feeling happens because you are too close to the screen and so much can be going on.

VR is great but it's only good for about an hour before you start feeling ill.

Now, I've never played a VR game but I have played tech demos and some other VR things that fall into that category. VR is great for simulations but it's not too great for playing a game like say, Call of Duty or Half-Life. The more stuff that goes on in the game world, the less time until the player feels sick.

Nintendo had already invented VR way back when the Virtual Boy released way back in July 21, 1995. The big thing that ended up "killing" the Virtual Boy was that the red-on-red graphics were off-putting and many players felt sick not long after playing Tennis or some other game.

Current VR no longer has the red-on-red of Nintendo's Virtual Boy but players still feel sick. VR just isn't meant for games. A short simulation is probably the best route for any VR studio. I believe that gaming companies that want to use VR should try to remake a part of their game world in VR but just as a tech demo or simulation but not an actual game.

If you have played Streetpass Mii Plaza for the Nintendo 3DS then you know that the puzzles you complete become basic tech-style demo like puzzles when you view them and that they are great in 3D. I believe that this is what VR should be like instead of a high action-packed, action-filled game.
