BYOND Strategy Tech Tree #182 & 183

The BYOND staff has taken on development responsibilities for an old community favorite. Meanwhile, I've been working with a developer to improve his featured game's interface. That and more inside.

One of my cousins recently celebrated a birthday.  A pair of my aunts and uncles celebrated an anniversary.  Naruto turned ten.  I'm frelling old.

Good luck to Area 5 with their funding for CO-OP episodes and farewell the the Pink and Deadly podcast.

This edited version of Along The Tech Tree comes to you from BYOND Strategy, a guild run by unpaid volunteers on a game/development portal and software engine called BYOND.  Tech Tree focuses on recent developer activity.  For play suggestions, visit the guild.

The DDT team has given the source of Last Robot Standing to the BYOND staff along with their permission to provide updates.  The Wiz-War homage should soon have a download available which will allow others to ignore the server problems that have plagued it over the years.  Naturally, efforts are underway to fix those bugs.  Likewise, a modern interface should be implemented.

Visions of the game deserving its popularity rank are dancing in my head.  Rants about nostalgia are remaining stillborn.  Woohoo! =)

Acebloke's Exploder is one of my favorite board games.  It's easy to learn and hard to master.  BYOND Strategy has been proud to feature it.  However, the confusing interface has always been a concern and later versions were a bit worse.  With Acebloke's permission, I have redesigned the GUI and uploaded a demo to help him implement the dynamic settings.  He seems appreciative and the changes should be included sometime in the near future. =)

That said, he's been busy shifting his Spore-inspired Dreamland to an isometric perspective.  Details of the world generation have been provided, updated and displayed in a demo available on the hub.  Details of the game mechanics, however, seem scarce.  Despite the aforementioned Spore influence, Acebloke's desire to create a multi-user dungeon means the game might become one of those dirty, dirty RPGs.

The results of September's AceMedalTable have also been posted.

Twin II is working on a multiplayer strategy RPG called Axiom.  Thus far it features turn-based combat with map-based positioning similar to Final Fantasy Tactics.  The engine is roughly finished, but some real-time features might slip in as well.

Though I've yet to upload any pictures, I have been working on the phase interfaces of my racing combat board game, StarScurrier.  I think I'm finally satisfied.  A lot of drafts have been thrown out, the phases themselves still need to be implemented and some of the cards ("contracts") might be redesigned.  Details, details.

Fooldom Come: One subscription. Many games.
