Research In Motion has released Version 2.1.1 of the BlackBerry 7 WebWorks software development kit, updating version 2.1 released in June. Also known as the Echo release, today's WebWorks update gives BlackBerry app makers, including game makers, access to the microphone on BlackBerry smartphones, letting them record WAV files directly within an app. The new version also includes a simulator for the BlackBerry Bold 9930, to test software before loading it onto a device, and a WebKit-enabled inspector, for verifying apps written for the browser or for Webworks. Finally, the SDK now allows for native use of HTML5 features without the addition of a specialized Javascript toolkit.
