Independent developer Ready At Dawn Studios, best known for its Sony-published PSP games God of War: Chains of Olympus and Daxter, has announced it will be using Allegorithmic's ProFX texture software for its unannounced upcoming game. ProFX generates procedural textures for 3D games, greatly reducing both asset creation time as well as volume of game data. Unlike two of its three shipped projects to date, Ready At Dawn's next game is targeted at home consoles rather than portable systems. This year, it also released a Wii version of Clover Studio's Okami. Said Ready At Dawn technology VP Andrea Pessino, “Procedural texturing offers many potential technological and artistic benefits, yet the process of translating a precise texture from an artist’s mind into a procedure is difficult to formulate. The greatest strength of the Allegorithmic technology is that it has made fully procedural texturing a viable alternative to hand-painting, by means of a visual language appealing to artists as well as engineers.”
