Audiokinetic said Wednesday that the latest version of its Wwise audio middleware will add new features including support for Apple's iOS platforms, with a licensing cost of $500 for iOS projects. With full iOS support in Audiokinetic's Wwise 2011.1, developers will be able to use the middleware in the creation of games for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. The company said that the relatively low licensing fee is an attempt to make the middlware more accessible to a wider range of developers. Audiokinetic recently announced that the new Wwise release also includes support for the Nintendo 3DS, with a license charge of $5,000 for that platform. "The video game industry is evolving, casual and social games are becoming a focus for more partners," said Audiokinetic VP of product strategy Simon Ashby. "This also implies making games available on a wider range of media and devices."
