With just over a day left until early registration for Game Developers Conference 2014 ends on January 31, conference organizers are encouraging anyone interested in attending to register now at the discounted rate. Register now for access to a wide variety of talks, roundtable discussions, postmortems and workshops. All passholders also have access to the GDC Expo Floor, located within the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, which will once again showcase cutting-edge technology from some of the industry's biggest and most influential companies. Crytek, Havok, Unity Technologies, and Epic Games are but a few of the notable exhibitors at the show this year -- you can visit the official GDC website for a dynamic list of the show's hundreds of exhibitors. On the GDC Expo Floor you’ll also find the IGF Pavilion, which will host playable versions of every game nominated as a finalist in the 2014 IGF Main Competition as well as the winners of the 2014 IGF Student Showcase. The Expo Floor also provides attendees with numerous opportunities to learn about upcoming products, interact with developers and publishers, and establish business relationships with some of the industry's top professionals. There will also be plenty of interactive exhibits spread across the Moscone Center, including an indie game lounge hosted by the Wild Rumpus, a lounge to play card and board games designed by video game developers, a trivia competition hosted by iam8bit, and multiple video game history exhibits from the Videogame History Museum and the MADE. The GDC Play showcase also returns to GDC this year, now in a prominent position on the lower level of Moscone North. As part of the 'Best in Play' awards program all GDC Play exhibitors will be judged on their in-development or complete games by a panel of veteran GDC organizers, Gamasutra editors, and industry veteran Tom Russo. The top 8 will be named 'Best in Play' winners, and all 8 winners will receive 2 All Access Passes to Game Developers Conference 2015. Industry legend and “Father of PlayStation” Ken Kutaragi is slated to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 14th Annual Game Developer’s Choice Awards, which will be held during GDC 2014 at 6:30 PM PST on Wednesday, March 19 in the Moscone Convention Center. The nominees for Choice Awards at this year’s show include Tearaway, The Last Of Us, and Gone Home. Of course, GDC 2014 will also feature a healthy lineup of lectures, panels, and tutorials during the show proper, and show organizers will continue to debut new sessions as the event draws ever closer. Most recently, show organizers revealed a trio of classic game postmortems that will be given by some of the most recognizable names in the business. Yu Suzuki will be delivering a Shenmue postmortem with translation from Mark Cerny, Eugene Jarvis is giving a Robotron 2084, and Dave Lebling will be revisiting his legacy as a text adventure pioneer in a postmortem of Zork. For the first time ever, GDC will also host a classic studio postmortem for Lucasfilm Games. Studio alumnus and Google games guru Noah Falstein will lead a panel of former Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts developers, including Ron Gilbert and Chip Morningstar, in discussing the creative and financial influences that shaped Lucasfilm Games into one of the most iconic and successful studios of its era. In addition, GDC 2014 organizers have revealed numerous new sessions within the show's Main Conference, which features tracks on Business Marketing & Management, Game Design, Production, Programming and Visual Arts, Audio and Advocacy. For the first time ever, all Advocacy track talks will be open to all GDC pass holders. The Summits at GDC return this year, offering lectures, panels and postmortems on the Monday and Tuesday (March 17-18) before GDC 2014. Lots of great Summit sessions have already been announced, and more will be highlighted soon. All of the announced talks are now available in the online GDC 2014 Session Scheduler, where you can begin to build your conference week and later export it to the up-to-the-minute GDC Mobile App, coming soon. Again, GDC 2014 itself will take place March 17-21, 2014 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California.
