Marek worked on home-grown games even as a child back in the late 1980s, with his brother Ondrej. In 1992, he started working at a game distribution company, and in 1998 he started to work full time on his first PC game, eventually released as Operation Flashpoint. In 1999, he co-founded Bohemia Interactive Studios, the company that undertook development of Operation Flashpoint.
