Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
The big games you expect are the big sellers, topped by EA's soccer game, in new pan-European data provided by research firm GfK.
Research firm GfK has released a chart of the best-selling games of 2014 so far in Europe, and EA's FIFA 14 is the clear winner so far -- with 2,176,245 copies sold in the territory. These numbers come to us from French site Gamekult, which captured them from German trade publication GamesMarkt. The numbers cover retail games only, and apparently the entire European territory. We don't generally report retail-only numbers, but six months of data gives a good macro-level view of what's performing well in the marketplace. Ubisoft's Watch Dogs came in second place with over 2 million copies sold -- a strong debut for the new IP. This news continues the success story we've already heard about Watch Dogs from the publisher. The only other new IP in the top 20 is EA and Respawn's Titanfall -- everything else is a sequel or a reboot of an existing property. The full chart is below, but take a look at Gamekult's story for an interactive chart of the performance of some top IP over the last several years, including Call of Duty, FIFA, and Skylanders.
