Source sandbox game Garry's Mod has reached a significant sales milestone, with the total sales topping 1 million over the past weekend. Revealing the news via the official Garry's Mod site, developer Garry Newman also provided a sales chart that displayed the game's monthly sales for the entirety of its lifetime via Steam, where it has been available since 2006. Previously, Newman said that the game had sold 300,000 copies from 2006 to 2008. Hence, the game has sold an extra 700,000 in the last two and a half years. Newman noted, "Even though my name is on the Mod there are a lot of people that have helped out over the years, and GMod wouldn’t be where it is now without them. Particularly Valve and Steam -- which made Garry’s Mod technically feasible -- namely Erik J, Alfred, Jason H and Mike D." "There have been countless contributors to Garry’s Mod over the years, whether it be people directly editing the code, submitting bug reports and fixes, creating mods, movies, screenshots, comics." He also revealed that a "big secret update" is set to be released for the mod sometime soon. Earlier this year, Newman added a false error message to Garry's Mod that only showed up when booting pirated copies of the mod, allowing the development team to "[have] fun at the pirates' expense."
