Amsterdam-based Vanguard Games is restructuring itself to become Force Field, a studio focused entirely on developing games and experience for virtual reality and augmented reality devices.

This seems to spell the end of non-VR game development for Vanguard, which has released a handful of games (most recently Halo: Spartan Strike in collaboration with 343 Industries) across mobile, PC and console platforms since it was formed in 2010.

Vanguard was cofounded by the original founders of Killzone studio Guerrilla Games, Martin de Ronde and Michiel Mol, and those two are among the founding team of Force Field, an Oculus partner which will now be "merged" with Vanguard.

"We kicked off in this new direction nearly a year ago through our partnership with Oculus and absolutely fell in love with the possibilities of this new platform," Force Field chief Arthur Houtman stated in a press release announcing the restructuring effort. "We believe in the incredibly potent future of VR and AR and have made the bold decision to refocus our entire company."

Among Force Field's announced projects are a "triple A" VR game slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2016 and a "ride/experience" for space travel firm Xcor that will launch on the Oculus Rift and Gear VR later this year.
