A group of eight Kerbal Space Program devs published a goodbye note on Reddit today announcing that they're leaving the project -- and its developer, Squad -- to work on other projects.

Many of those departing have been a notable part of the game's development, and while Squad appears intent on continuing to update the game in their absence, it's intriguing to see so many leaving at once.

"All good things must come to an end, and so it is for us. It is time for each of us to move on from Squad," read the post, published by a now ex-KSP dev who operates under the name NathanKell. "Signed, in no particular order, your Kerbal developers Mike (Mu), Bill (Taniwha), Nathanael (NathanKell), Sébastien (Sarbian), Jim (Romfarer), Brian (Arsonide), Chris (Porkjet), Nathan (Claw.)"

Gamasutra has reached out to Squad for further details on the departures, as well details on how many remain at the studio and what plans it has for KSP going forward.

Among the devs departing is Mike "Mu" Geelan, the first external contractor brought on by Squad to work on the game. He had been serving as the lead developer on Kerbal Space Program after the game's designer, Felipe Falanghe, stepped down from that role and left the studio earlier this year.

Update: A Squad representative offered Gamasutra the following statement:

"Since the beginning of Kerbal, developers have been coming and going, some stay longer than others but development has never stopped. Of course we are going to miss them, they did a great job and we wish them the best. As a company we are prepared for this kind of situations and we are already working on what comes next. We have already made an announcement about the future which you can see on our forum post. The future is bright and there is many more Kerbalness for many years to come."

The representative also noted that one of those devs departing, "Porkjet", was considered to have left the studio a few weeks ago in an "unrelated" event.
