Indie outfit Playful has received $25 million from private investors to help accelerate the development of its Oculus Rift exclusive platformer, Lucky's Tale.

Although specifics weren't disclosed, the studio explained it will now look to bolster its team by bringing in new recruits and investing in the latest technology.

"Thanks to breakthrough technologies, our players will literally inhabit our stories, reach out and embrace our characters," said Playful founder and CEO Paul Bettner.

"That's why we raised this money. Because the most important growth opportunity our industry has ever experienced is starting now."

Lucky's Tale will launch alongside the consumer version of the Rift, which will cost over $350 when it hits shelves next year.
