After cutting ties with longtime employer Konami last year and going independent, veteran game developer Hideo Kojima has launched his own YouTube channel bearing the newly-reborn Kojima Productions brand.

On its face, this isn't terribly noteworthy -- this is the age of the YouTuber, after all, and lots of studios run their own channels on YouTube, Twitch or other broadcast platforms.

But they typically use them to share videos of the games they're working on and why, whereas Kojima Productions' first published "HideoTube" video simply features Kojima and pal Kenji Yano talking about their favorite movies of 2015.

Yano, incidentally, works at Japanese multimedia publisher Kadokawa and collaborated with Kojima on the novelization of his last game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The pair seem to share a passion for film; early in the video, Yano tells Kojima he saw roughly 128 movies last year -- 100 of which were in the theater.
