Konami vice president and industry veteran Hideo Kojima has revealed that the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Rising has now been renamed to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The multiplatform title is the next in line for Kojima Productions' popular Metal Gear series, but Kojima's studio is only producing the title. Platinum Games, the Japanese developer behind the stylish Vanquish and Bayonetta action games is heading up actual development of Revengeance [YouTube]. The game steps away from the Metal Gear franchise's usual stealth-style gameplay, offering instead a hack-and-slash action experience. When the title was originally revealed back in 2009, Kojima explained that the story would take place between the events of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. However, he has now confirmed that Revengeance will take place several years after the events in Metal Gear Solid 4, although the lead protagonist is still MGS 2 lead Raiden. Last month, it was revealed that Ken-ichiro Imaizumi, producer on the upcoming title, had moved to a different department in the company, and that Yuji Korekado, production manager at the Metal Gear house, had taken his place.
