As Valve prepares to enter the war for the living room, Valve's much-respected co-founder says that it's not the console makers that are the Steam Box's real threat: it's the guys making the iPhone.
"The biggest challenge, I don't think is from the consoles. I think the biggest challenge is that Apple moves on the living room before the PC industry sort of gets its act together."
- Valve co-founder Gabe Newell is fighting hard to get a Linux-based "Steam Box" into living rooms, and he doesn't see the traditional console makers of the world standing in the way of that. He sees Apple. "The threat right now is that Apple has gained a huge amount of market share, and has a relatively obvious pathway towards entering the living room with their platform," Newell told students at a recent University of Texas lecture.
