The AMD Foundation and Scholastic Media have joined with the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers to create Level Up!, a new online initiative promoting game design fundamentals and STEM education. Level Up! offers online guides, tools, and platforms for teachers wishing to include game creation in a learning curriculum. The Level Up! structure is specifically designed to boost students' science, technology, engineering, math, and language arts skills while teaching the core concepts of game design. In Level Up! exercises, students use the Gamestar Mechanic and Activate online game creation tools to build original video games. Level Up!'s website offers a selection of example student games in addition to contests and scholarship opportunities. Games created within the Level Up! program are also eligible for entry in Scholastic's Art & Writing Awards for students.
