Apple came out with a statement on Thursday confirming suspicions that software updates were being used to limit the performance of older iPhones, causing battery issues which would lead to devices shutting off suddenly.
In a piece by CNN, Apple has stated that their "goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices," but consumers aren't convinced.
This reveal could explain performance issues experienced by older-generation iPhones when running apps or games, as consumers pointed out performance issues and a shorter battery life after updating their systems.
A common belief is that Apple uses this tactic of slowing down older generations to draw users into buying newer phones.
The company insists its software updates were actually designed to prevent surprise shut downs and prolong battery life.
Apple goes on to say that these updates are meant to address the issue of power demands but at the cost of performance, leading to a decrease in responsiveness.
