Bigger than Zynga and King, a new report suggests -- and also the Japanese companies that dominate their lucrative domestic market.
VentureBeat has learned that the valuation of mobile game powerhouse Supercell rests at $5.5 billion, making the Finnish studio responsible for Clash of Clans and Boom Beach the most valuable mobile game studio on the globe.
Japanese tech giant SoftBank recently increased its stake in the company, upping its total ownership to 73.2 percent -- and though the price paid wasn't made public, that transaction is where this info comes from, according to VentureBeat.
The $5.5 billion valuation puts Supercell above competitors like Zynga ($2.7 billion) and King ($4.5 billion), VentureBeat notes.
It also puts the company above the top-grossing Japanese mobile studios: GungHo Online Entertainment (Puzzle & Dragons) has a market cap of 580 billion yen, or $4.6 billion. Mixi, responsible for Monster Strike, has a market cap of 443 billion yen, or $3.5 billion. Colopl, developer of hit White Cat Project, rests at 312 billion yen, or $2.5 billion.
