Online game network provider Exit Games has announced a partnership with Chinese game developer The9, that will see Exit's Photon network engine distributed in China. Photon is a network engine suitable for online first-person shooters and MMOs on a variety of platforms, including Unity, iOS, Android, Flash and HTML5. Exit Games has already seen its products used by the likes of OpenFeint, Bigpoint, Walt Disney, Square Enix, Taito and Konami to create online and social applications. The9 will market and distribute the engine to developers and publishers for the Chinese game market, allowing studios to launch their games more easily in China. Christof Wegmann, founder of Exit Games, explained, "We are absolutely thrilled to partner with an online games powerhouse like The9. China is a fantastic opportunity for us, with many highly skilled online game developers, and the partnership with The9 opens up this market for us." The9's Chris Shen agreed, noting, "Developing and operating successful online games in China is a huge technical challenge as they must scale for an enormous amount of concurrent users." "That is why we are happy to distribute Exit Games Photon, an online game engine that exactly tackles these challenges, allowing game developers to build robust and scalable online games on multiple platforms, and to operate them on a minimum amount of servers." Earlier in the year, The9 announced that it had licensed the multiplatform Vision Game Engine from Germany-headquarted Trinigy, for use in a new, upcoming MMORPG.
