Organizers of the student-focused Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition remind entrants that the submission deadline for its AMD-sponsored Video Games category is January 28th, 2011. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is a yearly competition hosted by The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a nonprofit organization that "identifies teenagers with exceptional artistic and literary talent and brings their remarkable work to a national audience." Presented in cooperation with the AMD Foundation, the contest's recently revised video games category encourages the creation of interactive digital media created by teams of up to five students each. For consideration in the competition, students in grades 7-12 may submit either a collection of concept documents or a playable game prototype built using Scratch, Flash, Gamestar Mechanic or Game Maker. The top two teams, as chosen by a panel of AMD judges, will receive cash prizes of $1,000, a laptop, and up to $2,500 to be spent toward development of the winning game proposals. Applications and submission guidelines are available at the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards website.
