Today, EA and developer DICE have launched the Community Test Environment, giving fans "the chance to evolve Battlefield 4 with us and become a part of the development process." PC players of the game with Premium accounts can download a special version of the game client from EA's Origin service. While there is no application process, the blog post notes that "there will be a limit to how many can join." "By launching this new program, not only will we be able to address player feedback at an early stage, but also increase the overall quality of the game," the blog post says. The game's Battlelog community site further explains how the project will work: "We will use the CTE Forums to gather feedback and suggestions during an active initiative -- posting follow ups and comments to design & feature decisions as we go." PC shooters are increasingly becoming collaborations with their communities, with Epic announcing an entirely new Unreal Tournament that will be open to modders from its inception today. Battlefield 4 came under heavy fire after its launch late last year, thanks to wide reports of bugginess. DICE launched a public bug tracker in December, and early this year EA EVP Patrick Soderlund spoke about the company's struggles with the game, saying EA is "taking multiple steps to incorporate what we've learned and integrate them into future products."
