One of the most familiar names in sports will be dropping out of EA Sports' video game portfolio, the company announced Monday. EA said it has ended its partnership with legendary golfer Tiger Woods for its Tiger Woods PGA Tour series of golf games, starting with its upcoming next-generation golf game. Woods had his name attached to the series since 1999. "EA Sports and Tiger Woods have also made a mutual decision to end our partnership, which includes Tiger's named PGA Tour golf game," said Daryl Holt, VP and general manager of golf at EA Sports. "We’ve always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors." Tiger Woods' brand lost some of its squeaky clean luster in late 2009, following controversy around an extramarital affair. But EA said it would stick by Woods and continue their partnership for the time being. Today's breakup announcement comes just as Rory McIlroy beat Woods in a 1-on-1 exhibition match in China. Although the partnership with Woods is coming to an end, Hoyt said EA will still work with the PGA Tour on branding for EA Sports' golf games. "Moving forward, we will continue to work with the PGA Tour exclusively to create groundbreaking golfing titles and our partnership remains strong," he said.
