The gap between Facebook's #1 and #2 game publishers got a bit smaller this week, when Zynga was dethroned from the top of the most popular games chart. King.com's Candy Crush Saga recently became the Facebook game with the most daily active users (DAUs), knocking Zynga's reigning king, FarmVille 2, down to second place. According to AppData, Candy Crush Saga currently has about 9.7 million DAUs, while FarmVille 2 has around 8.8 million. It's not as clear-cut of a dethroning as that may sound, however: Zynga still owns the charts when it comes to monthly active users, with FarmVille 2's 41.8 million dramatically ahead of Candy Crush Saga's 25.8. King.com has been gaining rapidly on Zynga over the past 18 month, and now claims to generate over 5 billion monthly game plays across 50 million players between its web and mobile games.
