Peggle and Bejeweled developer PopCap this week confirmed previous reports that it made more than $100 million in revenue in 2010, up by 25 percent over the previous year. In a new Business Insider report, the company notes that while desktop gaming is still its largest source of income, its online and console gaming divisions have expanded considerably over the last five years, driving this growth. In 2005, desktop gaming made up 63 percent of PopCap's revenue, down to 38 percent in 2010. Online gaming rose from 2 percent to 14 percent, while console revenue increased from 1 percent to 13 percent. Revenue from mobile gaming made up 34 percent of the company's revenue in 2010, the same figure as in 2005. However, the increase in App Store sales helped attribute to the overall rise in revenue. The report also noted that PopCap's monthly social revenue was up by 100 percent to $2.5 million since August 2010, while its Bejeweled Blitz games now see over 2.5 billion players each month in total. Earlier in the month, PopCap's VP of Asia/Pacific James Gwertzman talked to Gamasutra about the company's expansion into the Eastern markets. The company announced earlier in the year that it will be examining the possibility of an initial public offering sometime this year, although CEO for PopCap Dave Roberts noted that it's still waiting for the right time to make the move.
