Gamasutra's bi-weekly look at the fastest-growing Facebook titles examines recently popular games like the latest adaptation of classic cartoon series The Smurfs, from Ubisoft, which shot up to over 1.5 million users in a week.
[Every other week, Gamasutra examines the fastest-growing Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at which titles and developers are having the most success attracting new players on the social network.] The fastest growing game on Facebook this week is The Smurfs & Co, based on the popular animated animated TV series and created by Ubisoft. The city-building sim launched only a week ago, but it has already attracted almost 1.6 million monthly users. The Smurfs & Co's quick rise shouldn't surprise anyone who's seen how big Capcom Mobile's free-to-play game The Smurfs' Village has become on iOS devices -- and that didn't have the benefit of buzz brought in by the box office debut of the Smurfs film last week. RockYou's Zoo World, despite having been around for some time now, is the second biggest gainer of the week for the social network. It saw a surge of new users recently, adding 1 million players in the last seven days and bringing its total count up to 7.6. million. Gourmet Ranch, another RockYou title, is at #3 after bringing in 491,952 new players, boosting its total audience numbers to 3.4 million. Nexon's social game adaptation of its free-to-play MMORPG MapleStory trails at #4 with 475,018 new users, and an 857,193 total. Vostu's Mega City is at #5 with 417,823 new users and a total population of 1.2 million, followed by Zynga's Texas HoldEm Poker with 377,642 new card players and a 34.5 million total, and King.com's Mahjong Saga with 366,070 new users and a 2.9 million total. Filling out the rest of the top ten, there's Disney/Playdom's Gardens of Time at #8 (+353,861 new users; 16.3 million total), Yahoo's Premier League Fantasy Football (+332,411 new users; 400,999 total), and GameHouse's Collapse! Blast (+305,757 new users; 952,793 total).
