The first Professor Layton game on the Nintendo DS, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, has sold over 1 million copies at Japanese retail. As reported by AndriaSang, CEO Akihiro Hino of Japan-based game company Level-5 confirmed via Twitter that the game, first released in 2007, has now reached the 1 million sold mark in Japan, four years and two months after its release. Level-5 noted recently that the Professor Layton series as a whole has shipped 11.5 million copies worldwide over four titles. Other Layton games include Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, and Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute. The fifth in the series and the first Nintendo 3DS version, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, was released last month in Japan as Layton Kyouju to Kiseki no Kamen, where it led the 3DS launch sales charts. A Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright crossover has also been confirmed, with Level-5 and Capcom collaborating on the title, although no final name or release date has been given as of yet.
