Gaijin Games tackling new projects as Choice Provisions

Bit.Trip developer Gaijin Games announced today that it is rebranding itself as Choice Provisions and developing two new games for iOS and Steam. The decision to abandon the name Gaijin Games was made in part because the Japanese term "gaijin" has historically been used as a pejorative for foreigners. "No matter how you may feel about the word 'gaijin' personally, I think it’s fair to say that some people out there view it as a negative term," wrote studio member Dant Rambo in a post on the new Choice Provisions website. "Ergo, we’re changing our name to Choice Provisions." The studio also announced two new titles in development: Laserlife, an exploration-minded game coming to Steam about rebuilding an astronaut's memories using lasers, and Tharsis, which is being made for iOS and Steam and seems to be about solving emergencies aboard a vessel drifting in space. However, every game the studio has produced so far -- including all the Bit.Trip games -- will continue to be sold under the Gaijin Games label, as will any future Bit.Trip titles. Meanwhile, Robotube -- the puzzle game developer Gaijin Games acquired back in 2011 -- has been renamed MiniVisions and will continue working on the upcoming titles Woah Dave! and Destructamundo.
