Author, teacher and noted game designer/researcher/critic Gonzalo Frasca will travel to New York in February to deliver a keynote address at the third annual IndieCade East conference. Developers on the Eastern seaboard, take note: IndieCade East, the younger sibling of U.S. indie game festival IndieCade, will be held in and around New York's Museum of the Moving Image from February 13th-15th with an eye towards celebrating the work of both established and up-and-coming independent game makers. "We will be celebrating creators that include modders, authors of interactive fiction, homebrew game developers, and more," stated conference co-chairs Clara Fernández-Vara and Matthew Weise in a press release confirming the event. "People who may not have traditionally been thought of as being game makers, but to whom the art and craft of indie games owes much to." Though still relatively young, the IndieCade East conference has a history of fostering critical examination of what it means to be an indie game developer; at this year's event, QWOP creator and moral philosopher Bennett Foddy delivered an elucidating keynote speech on the history of 'indie' games.
