Borderlands developer Gearbox Software is opening a new Canadian studio in Quebec City, Quebec and staffing up to swing into full production next year on a new game.

If this sounds familiar, it's because a few days ago fellow American game developer Bethesda Game Studios made a show of launching its own Québécois branch.

According to a recent report from the ESA of Canada, Quebec is home to more than half of the country's growing game industry, and is known for offering significant tax breaks to local game developers.

The newly-formed Gearbox Studio Quebec will be led in tandem by Dr. Sebastien Caisse and Pierre-Andre Dery, who will serve as operations director and creative director respectively. Each of them have had long careers that include stints at Volta, a Canadian visual services studio that's known for collaborating on concept art and cinematics for video games.
