Last week, the Gamescom 2013 conference wrapped up in Cologne, Germany. It ended being the biggest year for the show yet. Organizers for the show announced attendance of 340,000 during the show’s run last week. That’s up from 275,000 attendees last year. Unlike big video game trade shows like E3, Gamescom is open to the public, and not limited to industry professionals and media. A comparable show would be PAX Prime, which takes place in Seattle, Wash. every year. Organizers for that show no longer keep track of attendance, but in 2011, it attracted over 70,000 attendees. Gamescom 2013 week included big announcements from Sony and Microsoft, including a release date for PlayStation 4 and a new independent developer program for Xbox.
