Google taking steps to boost Android game developers in Japan, Korea

The biggest mobile market in the world is Japan -- and Korea is also lucrative. Now, the Android provider is aiming to help developers in those countries find sucess.

- Chris Yerga, head of Google Play in Asia According to a new Bloomberg report, Google is taking concrete steps to boost the skills and reach of Korean and Japanese Android developers in hopes of competing more effectively with Apple's iOS. Android is the world's biggest mobile operating system, but it's "common knowledge among game developers that Google Play users in general are not generating as much money for in-app purchases and for paid apps when compared to iOS," Japan-based mobile game consultant Serkan Toto told Bloomberg. Bloomberg says that Google has set up meetings to educate Japanese developers about working on Android, including help in translating and distributing their games globally, and new programs to develop entrepreneurs in Korea. Research late last year showed that Japan is now the world's biggest spender on mobile apps.
