Electronic Arts has cut a deal that will see Paramount TV and production company Anonymous Content optioning the rights to produce a television series based on EA and DICE's Battlefield games.
This comes just months after EA sold the TV rights to another DICE game franchise, Mirror's Edge, to production company Endemol Shine. While neither deal is guaranteed to lead to an actual show being produced, it's intriguing to see EA pushing its properties into the realm of TV.
“EA’s Battlefield has an incredibly dynamic narrative, coupled with a loyal fan base, which will allow us to bring this exciting and unique property to the small screen," Paramount TV chief Amy Powell stated in a press release announcing the deal. "We look forward to working with EA and Anonymous Content."
As the release points out, this is actually the second time Battlefield has been seriously considered for television; in 2012, Fox was developing an action-comedy show based on Battlefield: Bad Company that never saw the light of day.
