id cofounders John Romero and Adrian Carmack are teaming up to deliver a game inspired by classic shooters of their past.
The pair, working at Galway, Ireland-based studio Night Work Games (referred to as “the dark and violent subsidiary of Romero Games Ltd.”), are launching a Kickstarter for the studio’s first game, the Unreal Engine 4-powered Blackroom for the PC.
Romero is working as game lead on Blackroom, and Carmack as art director. The two are known for their past work on the seminal FPS games Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake, and are promising Blackroom as a return to fast, violent gameplay reminiscent of those past games.
Night Work also stressed that Blackroom, slated for a 2018 release, will be modder-friendly, with single- and multiplayer modes. The game’s premise involves holographic technology that’s gone awry.
The studio is looking for $700,000 via their Kickstarter campaign. You can find out more on the official Kickstarter page.
