As announced last week at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple's next update for iOS devices, iOS 7, will add a kids games category to the iTunes App Store. Apple describes the new category as "a curated selection of age-appropriate apps." Current apps are sorted into four age ranges for ages 4+, 9+, 12+ and 17+, but the new kids section will further break down age brackets to cater more specifically to children in particular stages of development. It is unclear at this time whether the kids category will include new guidelines or restrictions regarding in-app purchases. Monetization of games geared toward young players have recently come under fire, with UK's Office of Fair Trading investigating IAP practices for possible abuses. iOS 7 will be arriving on devices later this year.
