Newsbrief: It's been 25 years since the popular Metal Gear franchise got its start in 1987, and on Friday Konami and Kojima Productions revealed that the series has sold more than 31.1 million units as of December 31, 2011. This total includes every title within the Metal Gear line, including its original debut on the MSX2, and spanning today's modern lineup of Metal Gear Solid titles. The announcement also coincides with today's grand opening of the "Art of Video Games" exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C., which features both the original Metal Gear Solid and its classic PlayStation 2 sequel, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
