Major League Gaming is teaming up with Brazilian entertainment company Grupo Águia to create MLG Brasil, a competitive gaming network aimed specifically at the expanding South American game market.
U.S.-based Major League Gaming has announced a partnership with Brazilian entertainment company Grupo Aguia to create MLG Brasil, a franchised partner of the competitive gaming network aimed specifically at the expanding South American game market. It's an especially interesting move in light of the fact that the MLG network broadcasts a significant amount of console-based competitive gaming -- modern game consoles are notoriously expensive in Brazil, due in part to the country's aggressive tax laws. In fact, MLG Brasil's first task will be to coordinate with the MLG to broadcast the Call of Duty Championship Brazilian Online Qualifiers on February 16 and 23. The qualifiying Brazilian players will move on to compete for $1 million in prizes in the second annual Call of Duty Championship, which takes place in Los Angeles on the last weekend in March. “MLG has long been focused on growing the competitive gaming scene and we quickly recognized the tremendous opportunity to create a strong presence in the largest economic market in Latin America," stated MLG co-founder Mike Sepso in a press release confirming the partnership. "This is the first of many international franchises we plan to roll out in the coming years and we are excited to provide South American gamers with the ultimate platform to compete on a global scale."
