Newsbrief: The folks responsible for cross-platform development tool Marmalade are opening a new Marmalade Game Studio office in Portugal after netting over $2 million USD in investment earlier this month.

The company has seen success in the wake of its decision last summer to release a free version of its cross-platform development SDK, which has been used in popular mobile games like Electronic Arts' SimCity BuildIt and Plants vs. Zombies.

The new Lisbon studio is expected to both help support Marmalade's existing clients and develop its own games based on original ideas. It will be overseen by Mike Wilson, the head of Marmalade's home studio in London and a former EA exec.
