Newsbrief: Today, Microsoft announced a promotion that nets new purchasers of Xbox One hardware a free game. From September 7 through September 13, anybody who picks up an Xbox One in the U.S. will be entitled to a free physical, retail game -- any game, as long as it's a new title. The company said it had shipped 5 million units to retail this April, but later revealed that even with two consoles on the market, its total console shipments made only a modest gain for its fiscal year 2014. Sony continued to beat Microsoft even after it slashed $100 off the Xbox One's price by removing the packed-in Kinect camera.
