Microsoft reveals Xbox 360 transition strategy, console redesign

Kicking off the festivities of this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Microsoft hit the ground running with its morning press conference to a packed, green-drenched audience hall. Following an opening look at Kojima Productions' Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain, the stage was handed off to Yusuf Mehdi to unveil the redesigned Xbox 360, boasting a "smaller, sleeker" design that is "available today." Mehdi also announced that Xbox Live Gold members would be offered two free games per month up until the launch of the Xbox One, taking off a similar model offered by PlayStation Plus. Critically, Mehdi stressed the words "yours to keep," a not-so-veiled comment on PSN users losing access to Plus games with the suspension of their subscriptions. Mehdi then unveiled Wargaming's free-to-play World of Tanks for Xbox Live. Wargaming's Victor Kislyi called the 360 the "perfect match" as a console platform for the title, adding that the game had been significantly retooled to take advantage of the platform. Press Play's Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and FromSoftware's Dark Souls II were also teased for the 360 platform, capping off Microsoft's 360-One transition strategy.
